Manchester United Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional business:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
