Spurs Boss Thomas Frank Calls Goalkeeper Critics 'Not Genuine Fans'
The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Defeat Spurs and Raise Pressure on the Manager
Spurs fans who jeered keeper Guglielmo Vicario were told afterwards "those individuals cannot be real Tottenham supporters" by boss Thomas Frank.
Tottenham conceded two goals in the first six minutes to lose 2-1 to their opponents, registering their 10th top-flight home defeat of 2025.
However the primary topic of discussion was the visitors' next goal when Vicario gave away possession far outside his box.
The goalkeeper ventured out to deal with a high pass and carried the ball near the touchline.
But, rather than booting it into touch, the Italy international turned and tried to clear, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was collected by Josh King.
King passed the ball off to Welsh midfield player Wilson, who curled a strike into the goal from the touchline recorded at 36.6 yards.
Seconds afterwards when the ball went to the keeper again, some Spurs supporters jeered him.
Spurs were booed off at half-time, with the club 2-0 behind, and again at full-time.
A particular of those jeering episodes really irritated the manager.
"It came to my attention a few of our fans reportedly jeered the situation and jeered following, which, in my opinion is completely unjustifiable," the Danish manager commented regarding the supporters' response to his goalkeeper.
"[They] cannot be true Tottenham fans that act that way. Alright booing following the game, no problem, but when we are playing, we are supporting one another, we are behind each other moving ahead."
Kenny Tete had handed the visitors a early advantage before Harry Wilson's goal – with Kudus netting for Tottenham in an better second-half showing.
Ex- top-flight goalkeeper Joe Hart stated that the second score was "completely preventable".
"I do appreciate the fans' disappointment," Hart continued. "I know the role Vicario is performing. He is a excellent team player, he's a real leader in the dressing room but ultimately you are going to be assessed by your decisions.
"The keeper was deeply implicated in what ended up to be the decisive goal."
'It is In the Game, I Can Handle It'
Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario After the Match
Italy national team the keeper is in his third campaign with Spurs.
He stated following the game that he had to accept the feedback.
"That score was a mistake of my own, I take responsibility for it," he said.
"The intent was to clear the ball long and I simply hit the ball in a bad way. That made an even bigger challenge to climb."
He stated receiving jeers "is part of the game".
"I'm a big man, what can I say?" he continued. "We cannot be influenced by the circumstances in the crowd. Supporters have the right to do as they see fit.
"It is on us to remain more composed, to focus on our own performance. The team is missing in calmness and calmness to reverse outcomes. Today is a bad loss and it's tough to accept."
'I Was Surprised No One Returned to the Line'
Despite the keeper's error, it was far from an simple score for Wilson to score.
In fact it was the second most distant Premier League score of the campaign – following Tyler Adams' 43.3 yard goal for Bournemouth against the Black Cats, which incidentally also came on Saturday.
Wilson stated he was "a little bit surprised" that he still had an empty net to aim for.
Ten moments elapsed between the keeper exiting of his area and the midfielder striking – which was five seconds after the kick.
"I felt like the keeper was out of the box for ages," he said.
"It amazed me not one of the defenders returned to the goal line. When none of them defended the goal, my interest lit up somewhat.
"[Destiny] Udogie slipped too, which allowed me a little additional time. Then it was all about attempting to achieve the right contact and place it towards goal. I had a positive feeling, the moment it left my foot, that it was on the right line."
'When You're in a Bad Spell, All Appears to Work Against You'
Booing While We Are Still in Play Is Totally Unjustifiable - Frank
While the keeper's error dominated coverage, this was an all-round bad day for Spurs to extend their home woes.
This was their tenth home loss of 2025 in the Premier League, a joint club record along with nineteen ninety-four and 2003.
They still have home games against the manager's old side the Bees and champions Liverpool to come prior to the close of the season.
Only one of those victories have occurred after the manager replaced Ange Postecoglou in the off-season.
"When you're down 2-0 following the opening, there is a mountain to climb," stated Frank.
"During in a bad spell, everything appears to work against you as well – the first was a redirected attempt, the next is a mistake from Vic.
"The outcome leaves us in a place where we have lost an additional game. Every game has a single narrative, this game we were defeated in the first six minutes.
"We just need to keep working. The second half was much better and with luck an aspect we can utilize to learn."
Spurs have been defeated in four consecutive home London derbies for the first time in the top division.
And they are averaging nine point five shots and 3.2 efforts on goal per game in the division – their lowest rates on record in a single season (since at least 2003-04).
Former Cottagers midfielder Murphy stated that the manager has to ride the storm.
"He's got accept the stick," Murphy remarked. "He has taken a prestigious job at a major football club with massive expectation. There is scrutiny and duty that accompanies that.
"The performances at their stadium have been poor and they have to get better {quickly|
