The Actress Expresses Speaking About Trump Would ‘Add Fuel to a Fire’ That’s Ripping the Country Apart
The star has revealed that she believes it's no longer fitting to voice opinions against the Trump presidency, fearing it could worsen divisive discussions and deepen rifts across the United States.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Explains the Actress
During a discussion, she reflected, “When Trump was first in office, I believed I was moving hastily like a chicken with my head cut off. But experience has shown, election after election, celebrities have no real impact whatsoever on electoral choices.”
She continued, “What’s the point? I’m just voicing my thoughts on an issue that’s going to add fuel to a fire that’s ripping the nation apart.”
Political Evolution
The actress has spoken candidly about voting for both Republican and Democratic candidates in past elections. Growing up with a right-leaning family in her home state, she supported John McCain in the 2008 election prior to switching to the Democratic party and explaining she understood during Obama’s administration that supporting the GOP was undermining her own rights as a female citizen.
Earlier Remarks
Several years ago, she commented that Donald Trump’s election might signal “the end of the world” and backed Joe Biden in the 2020 election. In the latest campaign, she voiced her backing to the Democratic nominee, “because I feel she’s an amazing candidate and I trust that she will make every effort to protect women’s health rights.”
Celebrity Views
Jennifer Lawrence was joined by numerous celebrities in her rejection of the former president as a presidential contender, but the minimal impact stars have over the public choices was highlighted by Trump’s victory.
“This upcoming term seems distinct,” said she regarding Trump’s presidency. “As he stated his intentions. We understood his record for the previous administration. He was very clear. And that’s the option selected.”
New Release
Jennifer Lawrence is currently promoting her new film, director Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she portrays a new mother who deals with her emotional state in a remote area. At a press conference for the project in Venice, she addressed Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “I’m terrified. It’s devastating. What’s taking place is nothing short of a genocide and it’s awful.”
Broader Concerns
She continued by saying that she was disappointed by “the hostility in the conversations of U.S. political debates at present and how that is going to be commonplace to the children right now. It’s going to be standard to them that leaders are untruthful.”
The actor aimed to shift anger about the issue to policymakers rather than celebrities. “Keep attention on those accountable,” she remarked, in what many took to be a allusion to the then-recent pledge endorsed by more than 4,000 arts community members to boycott specific industry bodies.
Personal Connections
Jennifer Lawrence, who earned critical acclaim at a young age for her part in her breakout movie, is receiving praise for her work in the new film. While Ramsay has denied the plot being interpreted as one of maternal mental health issues and psychological distress, she shared that she identified with elements of her film narrative after the delivery of her youngest child, shortly after production wrapped.
“I felt anxiety regarding my baby,” she said, “envisioning every worst-case scenario, and then doubting everything that I was attempting. I was already in therapy, but I got on a treatment called Zurzuvae and I took it for two weeks and it really helped.”
Film Challenges
The actor also discussed about the freeing requirement of filming without clothes in the project while she was expecting and limited physically.
“It’s refreshing,” she said, regarding the need to cast off vanity. “I mean, I do have moments where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between my work and that profession? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
